This piece previously appeared in the now defunct magazine, "The Aesthete." (Every other article I post will be something I've written in the past that is virtually impossible to find now. )
I can't decide which sentence gives me a more tumescent boner: a) "Trucks fuck trucks and cars fuck trains and Vin fucks his sister, himself, all earthly authority, basic principles of physics and finally, God." or b) "Brand loyalty is franchise loyalty is repetition-compulsion is Death Itself." Then, of course, there's c) "So: take the morphine, buy the handbag – because you will never, ever have a complete, intact self to call your own." I kiss your glove with my quivering Flintstoner lips...

Hello, So sorry to be a picky puss, but, "The beast in Me", i.e. your lead lyrics attributed to JC - was written by Nick Lowe. I believe at the time married to Johnny's stepdaughter Carlene Carter. Nick was intimidated by Johnny and therefore super happy that he wanted to cover his song. Thanks for sharing your archive.
