I feel your shame re: the exchange with the jazz dance teacher. I hate reflecting on all the unthinking remarks I’ve made to others (and the withering responses I elicited). Maybe there will be a speed-dating-like event in heaven in which everyone has the opportunity to apologize to those they’ve offended. I like your emphasis on a real counter-culture in the past and the inspired creativity (that was maybe more possible because not everyone was ingesting the same images online) vs today’s bland, homogenized vision of excessive wealth.
