Along with hilarious and pullquote-filled, this piece is really helpful. I've got two semi-Jareds in my life who I also can't let go of, because they bore and raised me. Bizarrely, this has been one of the biggest internal struggles of my life-- trying not to engage when we reunite, begging off when some Fox News talking point triggers another harangue, trying to just chuckle when black is presented as white (or "all lives"). I imagine this would be easier if the folks weren't sharp, elite-univ-educated, reasonable retired East Coast professionals as recently as 6-7 years ago. Increased discussions and visits during the pandemic revealed the extent of the shift, and for the past 2 years I'VE been the red-faced, yelling lunatic when our little chats veer into territory that feels toxically deranged. You really care for Jared for what sound like great reasons, and I bet the feeling's mutual, so what do you do? I hate that the choice seems to be between having periods of satisfying communion punctuated by infuriating exchange, or slowly easing into some consensual hallucination (other than the standard romantic ones). Plus, there's the fact that ao many tributaries of this "mainstream-media"-suppressed wisdom end up at firearms. Thank you for feeling my pain.

If you want a good primer on sane reality, you can't do better than Dr. Steven Novella's "Skeptic's Guide to the Universe". His team's scientific good sense is a comfort.
