“...later wrote her college entrance exam on the difficulties and tribulations of having an “insane” cousin, i.e. me.)”--way to cross pollinate Abby! Abby was going places! This inspires me to try and write about the family theatre shenanigans we got into when I was growing up in Cabo Verde. The highlights involved me always being dressed like “an African” in a closing number we called “all the children of the world must love one another” (cute!) even though I was an African in Africa at the time, and so was everyone else...
CINTRA!!! I have always liked you and adored your writing. But after seeing the tour de force Wilberforce movie, I fainted at the high concept, artistic expression, casting and set design, not to mention the 5mm film camera last made in 1907 footage.
No seriously, I adored it.
I always look foward to your posts and this one was non pariel.
CINTRA! This was such a spectacular presentation that I had to reschedule my morning meeting to finishing absorbing every fascinating second. Your imagination is boundless and on a day when it’s hard to find much to smile about I laughed ....Now, can you please reprint the college entrance exam of your niece ? ( with permission, of course) ...
Interesting to see the production values evolve over time (I'd guess the studio execs very grudgingly agreed to minor increases in budget as the commercial success of the earliest films steadily -- but glacially -- accumulated). A daring decision to end that first black & white release, in presumably the Hays Code era, with what can only be described as an LSD-saturated phantasmagoria. How that got past the censors we may never know. Favorite line: "Oh, too much of a lady to dig up corpses?!?"
“I feel…..MORALLY CORRUPT. And I LIKE IT.” Even without knowing the provenance, that line would suggest a West Coast preteen version of John Waters’ Baltimore crew. For shame/kudos.
im not sure i will ever be the same after watching several of these films on cell phone at like 2am (what can i say i wake up alot) from the very first serpent and gypsy production to your richard burton stint (those trees! the set!) its all just about as entertaining as it gets...ok for someone with a bad neck scrolling on cell phone 🤣🤣
I needed the smiles this brought.
I do it all for you, Grossman.
Me too Mr Grossman, me too.
